The UM6P Vanguard Center at the School of Applied Sciences Engineering is currently inviting applications for a Research Scientist position specializing in Applied Mathematics, Modeling, and Optimization. This role plays a crucial part in the interdisciplinary Wicked Problems (WiP) framework within the undergraduate program.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be involved in:
- Using mathematical modeling, numerical simulation, and decision optimization techniques to assist students in solving real-world issues.
- Mentoring student teams and designing numerical algorithms.
- Supporting project-based learning focused on partial differential equations (PDEs), ordinary differential equations (ODEs), discrete optimization, and control theory.
- Providing expertise in operations research and computational mathematics.
- Co-developing open-source educational tools.
- Contributing to research publications.
Applicant Requirements
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Possess a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or a related field.
- Demonstrate proficiency in mathematical modeling and optimization techniques.
- Have programming experience in languages such as Python, MATLAB, Julia, or C++.
- Preferably have experience with PDE-constrained optimization, numerical libraries, or hybrid modeling.
