The Office for Students (OfS), England’s independent higher education regulator, is launching a new Provider Panel to shape future regulations that will benefit students. This initiative aims to strengthen connections with universities and colleges across England by involving experienced sector leaders as ‘critical friends.’

Role and Responsibilities

Members of the Provider Panel will:

  • Offer advice and constructive challenges on current and future OfS policies.
  • Help the OfS understand institutional perspectives.
  • Alert the regulator to emerging risks within the higher education sector.

Panel Composition and Meetings

The panel will consist of expert members, OfS board members, and senior staff. Key details include:

  • Focus on the 2025-30 strategy, addressing both long-term policy and current regulatory approaches.
  • Meet five times annually, primarily in London, with meetings lasting approximately three hours each.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses.
  • A £300 attendance fee per meeting, which can be donated to charity via the Charities Aid Foundation.

Membership and Application

Up to 12 expert members will be appointed for an initial two-year term. These members must be senior leaders in OfS-regulated universities or colleges. The OfS is committed to diversity and equal opportunity, encouraging applications from all qualified individuals.
