The University of Southampton is offering an exciting full-time 2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow position starting early 2026. This opportunity is within the Schools of Ocean & Earth Science and Physics & Astronomy.
About the Role
The successful candidate will join a new collaboration focused on investigating ocean and sea-ice dynamics on Earth and icy moons using the advanced Oceananigans model. Furthermore, the role involves co-developing a next-generation ocean component for integration into the universal climate model OASIS.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in one of the following fields by the start date:
- Physical Oceanography
- Atmospheric or Planetary Science
- Applied Mathematics
- Physics
- Related fields
Essential skills include:
- Strong programming abilities in Julia, Python, Fortran, or C++
- Hands-on experience in ocean or sea-ice modelling
- Excellent communication skills
- A collaborative nature and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research
