Spread the love

The University of Southampton is offering an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow position at the Tony Davies High Voltage Laboratory (TDHVL), located on the Highfield Campus. This role centers on a cutting-edge project involving Additive Manufacturing for the High Voltage Industry, supported by the RIIO-2 Network Innovation Allowance (NIA). The project aims to address challenges within the UK electrical transmission system and contribute to decarbonisation efforts.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Research Fellow, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with Dr Thomas Andritsch, Dr George Callender, along with industry and academic partners.
  • Investigate the ageing behaviour and structure-property relationships of 3D-printed solid materials designed for high voltage applications.
  • Conduct 6-month accelerated ageing tests to assess key dielectric properties of these novel materials, which currently lack extensive historical data.
  • Prepare technical reports, research publications, and presentations to communicate findings effectively.
  • Engage proactively with the project team and industry stakeholders to support collaborative research initiatives.

Candidate Qualifications

Applicants should ideally possess:

  • A PhD or equivalent professional experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Preferable expertise in high voltage engineering, dielectric materials, or related fields.

Benefits and Working Environment

The University of Southampton promotes flexible working arrangements and values diversity. Additional benefits include:

  • A comprehensive pension scheme.
  • Generous holiday leave.
  • Access to health facilities.
  • Childcare services.
